Does the media cause asthma?
Hmmm, I wonder. Picture this. You are sitting at home, watching TV. It is the commercial break.
The first commercial is for Glade, a room freshener. It is either sprayed into a room or plugged in. There are beautiful people dramatically breathing in the “fresh” clean-smelling air.
The second commercial is for Downy. It shows people deeply smelling clothing right out of the dryer after Downy was used as a fabric softener.
The next commercial is for Pledge. It is “lemon-scented”. Again, something you’ve just got to smell to believe. And if it smells good, it must work really well, right?
The next commercial is for Windex, the new Lavender Fields scent. People are smelling a nice “clean” bathroom.
So here we are. These commercials are showing healthy, beautiful people smelling toxic chemicals with a great big smile on their face. The implication is that YES, breathe this stuff in deeply. Scent everything you can. It can’t hurt you one bit. The more everything smells good - the better.
Think about all the scented products in your home. Unless you use pure essential oils or 100% natural cleaning products like Shaklee, those fragrances are toxic chemicals that you are willingly exposing your lung tissue to deeply, regularly, everyday. I haven’t even mentioned the other toxic fumes that are in your home like insecticides, furniture and paint off-gassing, perfume, lotions, shampoos, hairspray, bleach, laundry detergent.

Toxic Household: Why asthmatics should stop perfuming their world.
These fumes, whether they smell good or not, are toxic chemicals you should not be breathing in.
Imagine what these chemicals are doing to your lungs over a lifetime? Imagine what these fumes are doing to your young children!
Here is a list of some the most toxic products commonly found in every home:
- Glass cleaners, like Windex

These fumes can cause asthma like symptoms when inhaled and can certainly cause serious respiratory issues over time.
This is your health and your children’s health we are talking about here. Here is a list of other harmful affects these common household products may produce in your one and only body. The danger can be from inhaling the fumes (fragrances), from skin application (absorption), eye exposure to fumes or substance, or (God forbid) ingestion.
